Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I get a test engineer to attend site?
A: Email or call us. We will likely require a basic set of layout drawings, by post or email. We use these to provide you with a quote, when you accept this in writing we can attend site.

Q: Do you have standard rates for the services you provide?
A: For tests we generally do, but for consultancy services, every job is different. We quote for a level of service commensurate with your requirements but you can then choose how much or how little input you think you need.

Q: What if I only really want some advice and then a test, rather than a full consultancy package?
A: If all you want is a site visit and a test, no problem. However, if you call and speak to one of our consultants we can help to assess your needs. Above all we’re here to help.

Q: We’ve taken on a project someone else started. We want to know if it’s going to comply before we get to Practical Completion. Can you help?
A: We have a compined experience of many years on many projects, we can’t guarantee an unknown quantity but we can point out the typical pitfalls for your type of build. We can then help to develop a strategy to get you where you need to be.

Q: Can we get a more competitive price if we put you on our Approved Contractor’s list?
A: As a rule we don’t build more than a basic margin into our quotes, in any case, so there’s generally little room to manouvre. If you can get what you think you need cheaper elsewhere, well, we believe you get what you pay for.

Q: We want to get a fixed price for a package of works, can you provide this?
A: Typically we only offer fixed, lump sum quotations and inclusive packages of works. Where there may be extra costs (i.e. in the event of re-tests) these are clearly identified.

Q: Why don’t you accept Retention clauses?
A: We don’t produce material works which may be subject to failure or defects, so in our view there is no valid reason to retain a percentage of our fee.

Q: If our building fails a test, will you help us to put it right?
A: As noted in the previous question, we don’t produce material works, but we will advise you when problems occur and if remedial works are realistically do-able on the day we will stay on site until the job is done.
